Holmes County commissioner charged - update

BONIFAY – A Bonifay county commissioner faces three misdemeanor charges, including a domestic violence charge, following his arrest Friday.

Sheriff Tim Brown said that Commissioner Ronald Mac Monk, 40, of 2311 Boswell Road in Bonifay, was charged with criminal mischief, assault (domestic) and trespass of a structure. Brown said that Monk was taken to the Holmes County Jail and has bonded out.

According to a affidavit of complaint filed by Monk’s wife, Miranda, she moved out of the house on Oct. 30 and moved to Westville. She told the HCSO that on Dec. 9 Monk broke a door frame at her residence and confronted Miranda Monk and a male friend. A fight ensued between Monk and the friend, and Miranda Monk said that her husband went outside and returned with a baseball bat and told the friend to leave.

Monk then reported used the baseball bat to break a dining room chair and a light switch on the wall, as well as a ceiling fan. Miranda Monk then said that Monk held the bat in front of her face and said he would take the children away from her. As he left Miranda Monk said that he broke the rear taillight of her car.

Earlier information provided by the Holmes County Jail to the Times-Advertiser that Monk had not been charged was incorrect.
