No road closures, no school cancellations

House and truck destroyed in Holmes County

BONIFAY – Other than one building and a truck, there was no major damage reported in Holmes County due to Tropical Storm Ida, according to county emergency officials. Emergency Operations Director Wanda Stafford said that no road closures were reported and there were no school closings as the storm moved through the area faster than predicted. 

The National Weather Service had the storm almost through the area at press time Tuesday moving east at 5 mph. 

House destroyed in storm

According to a report from Roger Deal, New Hope Volunteer firefighter the home of the late W.L. Pierce was destroyed around midnight, Nov. 10, as high winds from Ida passed through the area. This home as built in the 1940 for under $200 and help from the community where Pierce worked for local farmers for one day in return for one day of their labor on the home. The home was not occupied and a renter of H.L. Pierce lost his truck in the aftermath.
