Bethlehem residence destroyed by fire

BETHLEHEM – A Thursday evening fire destroyed a home on Will Lee Road in Bethlehem. Esto Volunteer Fire Department, Pittman Volunteer Fire Department and Bonifay Fire and Rescue responded to the call that went out at 9:06 p.m. according to Holmes County Communications Center.

Family members said that the fire at the Dan Mayo residence apparently started when children playing with fireworks accidentally set a gasoline can on fire. The can was next to the house and the burning gas subsequently set the house on fire leading Mayo and his girlfriend, Katherine Miller to get to safety via the bedroom windows.

Both were transported to local hospitals for treatment, with Miller reportedly suffering both burns and injuries from jagged glass. The house was almost completely gutted by the fire.
