1 killed in Walton County accident

GASKIN — A Sansom, Ala., man died in north Walton County on Thursday evening after his car left the roadway, flipped over and landed on its roof.

James Goff Butts, who was 66, was partially ejected, according to the Florida Highway Patrol media release.

The accident happened at 5:49 p.m. at Braxton Road and Collinsworth Road.

Butts was heading northbound on Collinsworth in a 1991 Chevrolet van when the right wheels left the road and went onto the shoulder. He then drove back onto the roadway, crossing the centerline and beginning to rotate, the report said.

His van then traveled onto the east shoulder, entering a ditch, striking a fence and landing on its roof.

Butts was not wearing his seat belt. Alcohol results are pending, the report said.
