BUHL – Hale County defeated Central on Saturday to take the volleyball championship title at the Sipsey Valley Invitational Tournament. Hale County won the final match, 2-1, by set scores of 25-13, 17-25 and 15-10.

En route to the championship, Hale County defeated Central, 25-21, 25-15; West Blocton, 25-4, 25-8; and South Lamar, 25-11, 25-20. Khadeja Bryant ended the day with 24 kills and 15 digs. Katie Smith had 27 kills and 14 blocks. Asia McMillian had 23 assists and Meik Caers 31, and Shakirra Jones had 13 kills, six service aces and three blocks.

Host Sipsey Valley advanced to the semifinal, defeating South Lamar, 2-1, by set scores of 24-26, 25-22 and 15-8 and Hale County’s junior varsity, 2-0, by scores of 25-7, 25-4, before falling to Central in the semifinals, 2-1, by set scores of 16-25, 25-22 and 13-15.

Hale County (8-4) plays at Holy Spirit on Monday. Sipsey Valley (7-7) will host American Christian Academy on Tuesday beginning at 4:30 p.m.
