EBRO - For the third year in a row, Washington County students benefited from players who pressed their luck.
Ebro Greyhound Park collected about $3,500 worth of school supplies for county students. Organizers said the players continued commitment to supporting education has shaped the annual drive into a tradition.
"We can't say enough about our players when they support things like this," said Cage Manager for the poker room Nichole Kennedy. "We feel like we should do this to support the county, especially the children in school."
"We're now calling it a tradition," she added.
Extra playing chips were given to players who brought in school supplies at tournaments. Park staff also made donations. In addition to support from the park, Kennedy said the establishment is grateful for the support of Washington County Sheriff's Office in delivering the supplies to schools.
"We serve an amazing community that continually gives back," said Kristin Martin, WCSO's Public Information Officer. "Ebro Greyhound Park's annual school supply drive is just another act of love that we are so grateful to be a part of."
The Park collected supplies from July 17-27 and had them delivered to schools Tuesday, Aug. 7.
"We were able to give a cross the board items for students that need it," Kennedy added. "This is one way of us giving back."
