Holmes County Sheriff’s Office reports the identity of the victim in the Wednesday, August 8 drowning at Vortex Spring to be that of Terril Crossfield, 21, a man who was from Jamaica but residing in Pensacola, according to the report.

Deputies with HCSO responded to the scene shortly before 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office.

Witnesses stated that Crossfield had assisted another swimmer after noticing she had become distressed, and that after passing the swimmer to another bystander for help getting to the shore, Crossfield also became distressed and went underwater, according to the report.

A diver pulled Crossfield from the water, and CPR was in process when emergency responders arrived, according to the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office.

Crossfield would later be pronounced deceased at the scene, according to the report.
