CHIPLEY - One man is in jail after striking a home resident in the face and holding "the victim by the throat," a Washington County Sheriff's Office news release stated.

Dustin Bragdon, 28, of Vernon, was charged with battery and possession of cocaine after a caller reported a physical disturbance at a residence on Holmes Valley Road.

Police responded to the domestic violence incident at about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 24. According to the news release the caller said Bragdon held the victim by the throat before striking the victim in the face.

When officers arrived, evidence of physical violence substantiated the call and Bragdon was arrested, the release stated. While at the residence, deputies also located a plastic bag of cocain in Bragdon's pants pocket.

"Domestic violence and drug abuse have both led to fatalities in our county," said Washington County Sheriff Kevin Crews. "This is unacceptable. If you are a victim of violence, of any kind, please reach out. We have a Victim Service Provider who has many resources and tools available."
