VERNON - City of Vernon has issued a multi-day city-wide precautionary boil water notice for all City of Vernon water utility customers.

According to an advisory that was sent out Tuesday about 11:30 a.m., the entire city is under a precautionary boil water notice beginning Friday, Aug. 3 until possibly, Tuesday, Aug. 7.

Officials advised that the notice is necessary after there was a city-wide shutdown of water services Thursday, Aug. 2 at midnight as new water lines were tied into the system for the Highway 79 road widening project.

Under a precautionary boil water notice, residents are advised to boil all water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth or washing dishes. A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient; also, bottled water may be used.

Usually, the water system will collect samples immediately following the repairs. The precautionary boil water notice will remain in effect until the bacteriological survey shows that the water is safe to drink.
