CHIPLEY - When one local girl learned of the devastation caused by the brush fire in Eastpoint, she committed herself to bake-away some of the victims' troubles.
Brenlea Thornton's Sprinkled with Love bake sale, held Wednesday at Brickyard Market, contributed a little more than $2,000 to the cause.
"Brenlea said she raised more than she thought she would," said Brenlea's mother Kristen Thornton. "She said it felt great to have a huge success."
With the help of her family, and word-of-mouth throughout the community and social media sphere, the 10-year-old baked and sold about 660 cupcakes.
All of the proceeds went to help the more than 100 men, women and children displaced by the June 24 fire which consumed about 820 acres - including the homes of about 35 families.
Efforts won't stop there. Brenlea's family is still accepting cash donations for the victims through a PayPal account, using email address firstname.lastname@example.org.
"I'm thankful for the support of the community," Thornton said.
