VERNON - Sixth graders at Vernon Middle School spent the 2017-18 school year in community service, with the hope of helping children battling childhood diseases.

After a year-long community service project, Vernon Middle School 6th grade class donated about 80 pounds of pop tabs to the Ronald McDonald House of Pensacola, the school reported online.

According to the RMDH website, aluminum tabs are recycled, and all the money earned supports lodging stays for families as children undergo care.

"Thank you to everyone that helped them in collecting these pop tabs," a VMS social media post stated.
