WASHINGTON COUNTY – A Vernon man is behind bars on child abuse charges after an investigation of alleged abuse by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
WCSO responded to a call on July 5, to a report of child abuse, in which the caller advised her 6-year-old child was left in the care of Demetric Webb and his girlfriend on July 3.
According to a news release from WCSO, the caller stated on July 4, she noticed the child had a large shoe-shaped mark on his back. Webb and his girlfriend live in the home with the mother and her family.
Reports provided to WCSO stated Webb allegedly hit the child with a shoe multiple times after he became angry when the child was jumping on the bed. Webb admitted to spanking the child.
A deputy obtained witness statements corroborating the child’s version of the incident as well as photographs that showed an injury resembling a bruise on the child’s lower back, in the shape of a shoe during the initial investigation according to reports.
Webb was charged with one count of child abuse, a third-degree felony, on July 6.
