Police are investigating two separate shootings tonight in the Cortez Street area.
About 7:20 p.m. the Terrebonne Sheriff’s Office was notified by Thibodaux Regional Hospital about a 23-year-old male who had been shot in the knee, authorities said. The victim, who was dropped off at the hospital, claimed he was shot while riding an off-road vehicle on Cortez Street.
The victim, who did not cooperate with authorities, said he is a Baton Rouge resident and was visiting family in the area, the Sheriff’s Office said. However, the Sheriff’s Office received no reports of any shootings on Cortez Street during that time, authorities said.
About 8:45 p.m. the Sheriff’s Office investigated a drive-by shooting that occurred on La. 20 near Cortez Street, authorities said. There were two vehicles traveling on La. 20 South when the suspect car fired multiple shots into the driver’s side of the victim’s vehicle.
A 25-year-old male driver and 25-year-old female passenger, both of Thibodaux, were shot and crashed at the intersection of La. 20 South and La. 3185 near the Schriever overpass, authorities said. They were later airlifted to an out-of-area hospital, where they remain in critical condition.
The suspect car -- a black four-door Nissan Altima with Mississippi plates -- was later found in a parking lot at 219 Patrick Drive in Schriever, authorities said. The car had been reported stolen from Mississippi.
It is not clear if the two shootings were connected. The case remains under investigation.
