CHIPLEY - The Miner family is preparing to say a bittersweet farewell to running popular Chipley restaurant, K.C.'s Pizza & Grille.
K.C.'s owner Matt Miner says the time has simply come to step away from the business, which first opened as a restaurant at 684 Seventh Street in 2009.
Prior to operating as K.C.'s, the 114-year-old building served as a railroad depot, an FRM Feed Store, and an auto parts store.
But while Miner is leaving the business, he is working to see that K.C'.s is able to continue serving the community by seeking a buyer for the restaurant who will agree to keep the existing operations, menu, and staff.
"We first made the decision [to sell the business] about six months ago," Miner told the Washington County News on Thursday. "We have had several interested buyers, but no official offers yet."
Miner says he leaves behind his appreciation to his staff and patrons for their support and takes with him fond memories of the past 8 years.
"My favorite thing about serving the community was the 'regulars,'" he said. "You get to know everyone's first and last names, their family, what they order - kind of like an extended family."
Unless a buyer steps in, K.C.'s last day of operation will be Sunday, Dec. 31.
