VERNON -- A Roulhac Middle School student will represent the district at the regional spelling bee next year.
Adriyanna White is the district spelling champion. The winning word was "feldspar," has German origins: any group of crystalline minerals that consist of aluminum silicates with either potassium, sodium, calcium or barium and that are an essential constituent of nearly all crystalline rocks, according to Merriam Webster dictionary.
The eighth grader, along with students from fifth to eighth grade across the district, competed for the district title during the Washington County District Spelling Bee held Friday morning at Vernon High School, 3232 Moss Hill Road.
White will advance to the Big Bend Regional Spelling Bee, to be held Saturday, Feb. 17 at the Aquilina Howell Student Services Center in Tallahassee.
Although Friday's district competition did not include a vocabulary portion, the first place participant will have a vocabulary portion at both regional and national competitions.
