VERNON -- City of Vernon approved two ordinances at Monday's regular council meeting.
After a second reading, Vernon City Council unanimously Ordinance 17-217, which repeals the existing floodplain management ordinance to adopt a new one that meets Florida Building Code, and Ordinance 17-218, which grants Gulf Power Company the right to construct and operate within Vernon.
In other business, the council hired a new recreation director. Brent Gibson was hired as Recreation Director at a Vernon City Council regular meeting Monday. His salary is $10.50 an hour.
Also at the meeting, the council approved a $750 quarterly payment to The Goulding Agency for public relations services and a motion to pay Jimmy Cook in advance for sprayfield maintenance died from a lack of a second.
Vernon City Hall will be closed Dec. 25-26 and Jan. 1 in observance of holidays. A workshop will be held on Jan. 8 at City Hall, 2808 Yellow Jacket Drive, officials said, and the next regular meeting will be held 7 p.m. Jan. 15 at the same location.
