CHIPLEY -- Employees of the Year were recognized at Monday's school board meeting.
Principals named their 2019 Teacher of the Year, 2018 Rookie Teacher of the Year and 2018 School-Related Employee of the Year picks at the Washington County School Board meeting Monday, held at the district headquarters, 652 Third St.
At Kate M. Smith Elementary School: Teacher of the Year is Courtney O'Brien, Rookie is Amy Fries and Employee of the Year is Jessica Vallejos.
At Roulhac Middle School: Teacher of the Year is Taura Brock and Employee of the Year is Abby Register. A Rookie was not named.
At Chipley High School: Teacher of the Year is Lenora Henderson, Rookie is Jessica Carter and Employee of the Year is Monica Roberts.
At Vernon Elementary School: Teacher of the Year is Montez Harmon, Rookie is Vicki Burger and Employee of the Year is Jacqueline Brown.
At Vernon Middle School: Teacher of the Year is Rodgers Coleman, Rookie is Heather Brinkmeier and Employee of the Year is Scott Harris.
At Vernon High School: Teacher of the Year is Tammy Smith, Rookie is Timothy Pickens and Employee of the Year is Lora Goodman.
At Florida Panhandle Technical College: Teacher of the Year is Melissa Watford, Rookie is Shanda Bruner and Employee of the Year is Brandi Carroll.
The district also recognized it's District/Data Center School-Related Employee of the Year and Vernon and Chipley Bus Garage School-Related Employee of the Year. They are, respectively: Jan Paul, Grace Roche and Kenny Mayo.
Also at the school board meeting:
- The School Board approved changes to its Student Progress Plan in order to bring the plan in line with state statutes. Significant changes approved included more a middle school requirement that gives an additional two years for credit recovery for promotion, new diploma designation that offers graduates a bi-literacy seal reflecting completion of a four courses in foreign language and a new graduation requirement that calls for students to develop a career plan.
- School board members learned student enrollment is stable and the Teacher of the Year/School-Related Employee of the Year reception will be held Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018 at 3:30 p.m. at Chipley High School.
- A workshop to discuss facilities and exceptional student education (ESE) programs will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at the district's headquarters, 652 Third St.
