VERNON -- Vernon's city clerk has resigned, citing an employment opportunity elsewhere.

Michelle Cook on Wednesday submitted her letter of resignation as City Clerk. Vernon City Council approved the resignation during a special meeting Thursday.

Cook was not available for comment Friday.

In her letter, she stated it was a "pleasure and honor to serve" the City and "after much consideration I have decided to accept an offer of employment elsewhere."

No information from City Hall was available about Cook's new place of employment. Her resignation is effective Jan. 5 -- 30 days out from the Dec. 6 resignation letter submission. Until then, she will assist the newly hired deputy clerk Tracy Walker, who is serving as interim City Clerk.

Walker's salary of $19,760 was not impacted as she moved into the new position Thursday, following a council motion of approval.

Vernon City Council meets in regular session 7 p.m. Monday at City Hall, 2808 Yellow Jacket Drive.
