Washington County Council on Aging

CHIPLEY - Washington County Council on Aging provides facility-based help to caregivers who provide care for elder recipients 60 and older who are functionally impaired. Facility hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. Recipients in Holmes, Jackson & Washington counties may qualify. For eligibility determination and enrollment, please call the Elder Helpline at 1-800-963-5337.



First Friday Fish Fry

BONIFAY - Knights of Columbus Council 10513 is hosting a Fish Fry from 4 to 7 p.m. on the first Friday of each month at the Blessed Trinity Parish Center. "All You Can Eat" cost is $10 with carry-out costing $7. Meal includes both catfish fish and white - either baked or fried - and sides. Blessed Trinity Parish Center is located at 2331 Highway 177-A in Bonifay.



AARP Smart Driver Course

CHIPLEY - Refresh your driving skills with the AARP Smart Driver Course. A representative with AARP will be at Washington County Council on Aging at 8 a.m., Tuesday, November 28 to teach defensive driving techniques, proven safety strategies and new traffic laws, and rules of the road. The cost of the course is $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members. For more information, or to register for the course, call 850-638-6216.


Chipley Christmas Fest

CHIPLEY - The annual Chipley Christmas Fest will be held from 4-9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1 in Downtown Chipley. The holiday stroll will be back again this year. Come out and do your Christmas shopping locally this year and you are sure to find some unique gift ideas and holiday discounts. Also, don’t miss the Christmas Marketplace where you will find local arts and crafts vendors selling their wares. The annual Christmas parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. (lineup is at 4:30 p.m. at the old CHS track on North Railroad Ave) and is a lighted parade. Parade applications are available at the Washington County Chamber of Commerce. The Northwest Florida Community Hospital will sponsoring the float contest, and the Washington County Arts Council will judge the contest. There will be plenty of other activities this year as well, including free carriage rides provided by Tobacco Free Florida and Community South Credit Union, free Santa photos at the gazebo by the Farmer’s Market Complex – courtesy of Sand Hills Santa and JC3 Photography, children’s activities & games provided by the Chipley Garden Club, Chipley Woman’s Club, Distinguished Young Women and Washington County Public Library, free pony rides and petting zoo – provided by The Pony Life, snow machines – courtesy of Lane’s Outdoor Equipment and Metric Engineering and a FREE inflatable slide and bounce house – provided by PC Inflatables. There will be live entertainment as well with classic Christmas tunes playing from 4-7p.m., the Chipley High School Vocal Ensemble on stage from 7-8 p.m., and Rick Kent closing the night out from 8-8:30 p.m. The Washington County Historical Society will also hold an open house during the festivities, so stop in and see all the wonderful displays. Food and drink vendors will also be available.



Christmas Bazaar at Caryville Baptist Church

CARYVILLE - Caryville Baptist Church will host a Christmas Bazaar from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2. The church is located at 4217 Old Bonifay Road in Caryville.


Bonifay Christmas Celebration

BONIFAY - The annual City of Bonifay Christmas Celebration in the Park will be held Saturday, Dec. 9, at 6 p.m. in Veterans’ Memorial Park. As is tradition, children and others in attendance can visit Santa and enjoy hotdogs and hot chocolate provided by the Bonifay Fire Department.


Town of Wausau Christmas Parade

WAUSAU - The Town of Wausau and the Wausau Volunteer Fire Department will host a Christmas parade at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 9, in downtown Wausau. Santa will be at the Possum Palace after the parade to greet the children. Refreshments will be provided. Anyone wishing to be in the parade is asked to contact Margaret at Town Hall at 850-638-1781.


'Christmas in Candy Land'

CHIPLEY - Washington County Council on Aging will host "Christmas in Candy Land," the council's annual Christmas Luncheon, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 12. This event will feature special guest Neysa Semmler as well as a meal for all those attending. All Washington County seniors age 60 or older are invited to attend.
