EBRO - Hammer Down Multisport, Inc. presented a check to Friends of Florida State Forest on Wednesday at Pine Log State Forest in Ebro.
Hammer Down Multisport is a non-profit organization located in Bay County whose mission is to promote and develop athletes involved in the multi-sports of cycling, swimming, running and triathlons and to enhance cycling safety in Northwest Florida.
After a mountain bike race at Pine Log State Forest on Saturday, October 28, held by Hammer Down Multisport and Barley’s Bike Shop, the organizations wanted to give back. Jeff Wirrick, President of Hammer Down Multisport said, “It was challenging work to put on this race but all worth it. It’s important for us to give back as it is for us to get. We are so proud to make this donation to the Friends of Florida State Forests. We are excited about the potential for this race and will be back next year.”
The race was billed as “Barley’s Monster Mash 3 Hour/6 Hour Mountain Bike Race at Pine Log”. The weather co-operated, and the race was a tremendous success. Racers did laps on the “Blue Trail” or “Dutch Tiemann Trail” for 3 and 6 hours. Racers came from GA, AL and FL to compete in the event. There were several categories for solo males and females, all male, all female and mixed race teams. Johnny Brizzard, from Pensacola who races for the Truly Spokin Team said, “This race was awesome and the state forest was beautiful to ride through with the tall pines and ponds. I can’t wait until next year!”
The funds will go toward trail maintenance and improvements at Pine Log State Forest.
