CHIPLEY – In a nomination by County Commissioner Todd Abbott and a second by Commissioner Steve Joyner, Commissioner Tray Hawkins was voted in as the new Washington County Board of County Commissioners Chairman.
Commissioner Todd Abbott was voted in as Vice-Chair, a position he has held for two previous terms. The board restructures every November.
A new communications tower has been approved to be built in the Sunny Hills area, at 3290 Ross Carter Lane. Verizon Wireless is to be the main provider using the tower, with the tower slated to be up and running in about a year.
Applications for legislative appropriations were approved by the board when they met in regular session on November 8. On the list for the possible funding is as follows: River Road, 3.6 miles of Greenhead Road, Holmes Valley Road and the Agriculture Center. The board is looking to have updated information when Senator George Gainer and Representative Brad Drake are in Washington and Holmes Counties for Delegation meetings on November 20.
Guettler and Guettler will be striping Brickyard Road from Usery Road to S.R. 77. The thermoplastic striping and rumble lights cost of $6,935 will be paid out of contingency funds.
An easement was granted to Florida Department of Transportation on Old Mill Road. The easement will allow FDOT to replace a cross drain to the retention pond. The drain is part of the widening project on S.R. 77.
In other business, the clerk of court was approved to pay bills for the month of October totaling 41,967,333.43.
Washington County Board of County Commissioners will meet again in regular session at 9 a.m. on December 13.
