WESTVILLE – A Westville man has been arrested after holding his family and young son hostage in a stand off with Holmes County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) on September 26.
HCSO deputies responded to a call at 1881 Old Mt. Zion Road referencing a man holding his family hostage with a weapon.
When deputies arrived on scene, contact with the man’s parents who had escaped outside. Deputies established the man was inside the residence with his five year old son. HCSO was advised he had a knife and was threatening to kill his family, himself and anyone that came to stop him.
As deputies entered the residence the man barricaded himself and his son inside a bedroom.
HCSO Special Response Team arrived along with additional units.
Communications were established with the suspect through the bedroom door.
Negotiations took about half an hour before the suspect opened the door where he was taken into custody without incident.
The small child was checked by EMS and determined unharmed and was released to his grandparents.
The suspect was identified as Justin Steininger.
Steininger was arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and three counts of false imprisonment.
Holmes County Sherrif John Tate would like to praise his deputies for their patience and poise in bringing this dangerous situation to a peaceful resolution.
