BONIFAY -- Bonifay City Council on Monday approved the first reading of its FY 2017-18 budget during a regular meeting.

The council unanimously approved the first reading of Ordinance No. 403, a FY 2017-18 budget of $6,460,518, at the regular meeting Monday held at City Hall, 301 J. Harvey Etheridge St.

The city's entire budget is encumbered by the general fund. The City does not collect an ad valorem tax.

The council will vote to approve the budget at a final hearing to be held 6 p.m. Monday at City Hall.

In other business, the council tabled an action to vote on an interagency public works agreement between Florida Department of Corrections (FDOC) and City of Bonifay. The agreement supplies the city with inmate labor through FDOC.

Also, the council unanimously approved Resolution 17-15, providing support to refurbish the Holmes County Extension Office, 1169 E. U.S. Highway 90. The office works with University of Florida to provide agricultural and educational resources to the local residents, the resolution states.
