VMS Beta Club Yard Sale

VERNON - Vernon Middle School's Beta Club will hold a huge family yard sale from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., Saturday, October 7, in the VMS front parking lot. This yard sale helps students raise funds to attend the National Junior Beta Club State Convention in Orlando this November. The school is located at 3190 Moss Hill Road in Vernon.

 

Tucker Art on Display

MARIANNA — Original works by watercolor artist Cassie Tucker will be on display in the Chipola Center for the Arts Gallery beginning Sept. 21. The opening will coincide with the Artist Series performance of Derik Nelson and Family. Cassie and her husband, Richard Tucker, live in his family’s old Wakulla homestead. Beyond painting she shares her enthusiasm for art through teaching students Drawing, Painting and Art History at Wakulla High School. Local landmarks in Apalachicola, where broken bricks stack against peeling stucco completes the circle of searching embedded in Cassie’s watercolors. The show is open through Oct. 29, Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Fridays, 9 a.m. to noon.

 

Bonifay 'Treblemakers' Present 'Forever Country'

BONIFAY - The Bonifay K-8 Treblemakers will present their annual Singsation, "Forever Country," at 6 p.m., Friday, October 13. The Treblemakers kick off the year by kicking up their heels in this tribute to country music. Featuring songs from yesterday and today, this show is sure to appeal to country music fans of all ages. Dust off your boots and join us as we share the sound of the South! Tickets are $5 and available at the door. 10th Annual 'Sale on the Circle'

DEFUNIAK SPRINGS - St. Agatha’s Episcopal Church in DeFuniak Springs will host the 10th annual Sale on the Circle from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, October 14. The event will take place on Circle Drive in DeFuniak Springs. In addition to enjoying a fall day in Historic DeFuniak Springs, buyers may be able to find bargains among the furniture, antiques, knick-knacks, crafts and yard sale items that are offered by vendors. Lunch will also be available. This event is sponsored by St. Agatha’s Episcopal Church. Vendors or those wishing to have a yard sale are asked to reserve space ($1 per running foot and free to other charitable organizations) as soon as possible. Bull Run

BONIFAY - The Northwest Florida Championship Rodeo will host a 5K Bull Run and a Kids Fun Run Saturday, September 30 at Middlebrooks Park in Bonifay. All runners registered by Friday, September 15 will be guaranteed a T-shirt. Registration for the 5K will be at 8 a.m. and the cost is $20. The Fun Run is designed for kids 12 and under. Registration will be at 9 a.m. and the cost is $15 without a shirt or $20 with a shirt. All proceeds will go to benefit the backpack program food for kids. 2017 Caverns Cultural Celebration

MARIANNA - Everyone is invited to the 2017 Caverns Cultural Celebration at Florida Caverns State Park on Friday, October 6 for the school day and Saturday, October 7 for the general public. The event presents the way of life and the life and times of people who have used the land that is now the Florida Caverns Park, from the Native Americans who hunted, fished, and utilized the area caves, to the CCC and WPA who developed the park during the New Deal Era. There will be first-person demonstrations and rural life exhibits as well as children’s games and food vendors. This annual event is made possible through the work of the volunteers of the Friends of Florida Caverns State Park and the kind support and donations from businesses and individuals in the community. A Walk to Remember

DOTHAN, ALABAMA - The 25th annual Alzheimer’s Resource Center’s “A Walk to Remember” will be held Saturday, October 7, at Westgate Park in Dothan, Alabama. This event is the primary fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Resource Center which covers southeast Alabama and part of the panhandle of Florida. It is not part of a national walk. The walk raises awareness of the devastation of Alzheimer’s disease and provides financial support for educational and support services for families, caregivers and victims of Alzheimer’s disease. All funds raised stay local. The registration fee is $15 without a shirt and $25 with a shirt. There is no registration fee for children four years and younger. A walk t-shirt is guaranteed for everyone who has paid $25 and who has pre-registered prior to Friday, September 15. Refreshments will be provided before, during and after the walk. On the day of the walk, registration and team photos will begin at 7:30 a.m., opening ceremonies will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the walk will begin at approximately 8:45 a.m. There will be one-mile, three-mile and five-mile walks to enable people of all ages to participate. Healthy Start Community Yard Sale

HOLMES COUNTY – The Florida Department of Health in Holmes and Washington Counties will hold the annual Healthy Start Community Yard Sale on Saturday, October 14, from 8 a.m. until noon at the First Baptist Church Annex, located on Highway 79 in Bonifay. This event is a community yard sale for baby and children’s clothing and items. The cost to participant is one pack of diapers. The diapers will be used by the Healthy Start Programs in Holmes and Washington Counties. The goal of Healthy Start is to prevent infant mortality and to provide services to pregnant women and children ages 0-3. Rock the Falls

CHIPLEY - Falling Waters State Park and the Washington County Tourist Development Council will host Rock the Falls Music Festival from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, October 21. The cost to get into the park for the festival is $5 per car load. Visitors will see new music from regional and local groups as well as some returning acts. This year’s band line-up includes The Dwellers, Ruff Water Band, Paw Paw’s Medicine Cabinet and Cypress Spring. There will be food, crafts and a Kid's Zone. 'Trunk or Treat'

 CHIPLEY - Chipley's annual "Trunk or Treat" event will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, October 28, in Pal's Park. This community-sponsored event is open to children ages 12 and under and is intended to provide a safe alternative to traditional "trick-or-treating" activities. Local businesses, churches, elected officials, and other organizations are encouraged to participate. Use your imagination and bring your vehicle, decorated with a theme, along with your organization's logo and share the excitement of hundreds of children enjoying trick-or-treating in a safe environment. Vendors are asked to use the Rustin Drive entrance for the safety of the children. Set up is to be complete by 3:45 p.m. on the soccer field. A registration is required. Washington County Council on Aging

CHIPLEY - Washington County Council on Aging provides facility-based help to caregivers who provide care for elder recipients 60 and older who are functionally impaired. Facility hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday. Recipients in Holmes, Jackson & Washington counties may qualify.
