CHIPLEY – A Chipley woman was arrested September 16, after she threatened two people with a firearm.
Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 at a residence on Mobile Swamp Road. The caller alleged that Martha Dianne Showers, 65, of Chipley, was intoxicated and began to argue with two people at her residence.
While conducting an investigation, the deputies were advised that Showers had threatened two individuals with a gun by stating, “I’ve got this, and the safety is off.”
The alleged victims stated they were hiding in their bedroom during the incident and fled the scene while calling 911.
Showers later admitted to brandishing the gun and firing it in the back yard of her home.
Showers was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
“Our deputies responded to this call with the skills to assist in diffusing the situation,” said Washington County Sheriff Kevin Crews. “We are fortunate that there were no injuries. Incidents such as these can easily end up with very different results.”
