PANAMA CITY - The 8th annual "Walk in My Shoes" event will be held Thursday, September 21. Sponsored by the Lauren's Kids organization and spanning from Key West to Tallahassee, this annual event is an effort to help raise awareness about child sexual abuse.

1 in 3 girls and 1 in 5 boys will become the victim of sexual abuse before their 18th birthday - but studies show 95 percent of child sexual abuse is preventable through education and awareness.

The event is meant to not only raise awareness, but to also help the community to pull together to prevent abuse, protect childhood, and empower survivors.

Registration begins at 3 p.m. Thursday, September 21, at the Gulf Coast Children's Advocacy Center, located at 210 E. 11th Street in Panama City. Walk Segments will be 4.2 miles in honor of the 42 million survivors of child sexual abuse in the U.S. Register online at LaurensKids.org/Walk
