WASHINGTON COUNTY - With the new school year beginning this week, local organizations are wrapping up back to school supply drives and helping ensure local children have what they need for academic success.

Several community churches in the Vernon and Ebro area came together Saturday to host the first annual Back to Fest at Campbell Park, spearheaded by Vernon High School Assistant Principal, Dr. Charles Peterson. More than 70 were in attendance for supplies, food, and fun. Also on hand were new VHS Coach Gerald Tranquille and his family to meet and greet the public.

Saturday also saw the annual New Vizh-uhn Back to School event, held at Gilmore Park in Chipley, where members of civic organization New Vizh-uhn handed out about 300 backpacks filled with supplies. The Washington County Sheriff's Office, Chipley Police Department, and Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT) were also at the event to hand out supplies and information.
