BONIFAY – Several familiar faces - and some new ones - will be seen when the new school year begins in August, following the approval of several members of personnel by the Holmes County School Board during the June 20 regular session.
Returning teachers include Ashley Mosley, who will teach at the new Bonifay K-8 school; Trey Ramsey, Bethlehem; Katlyn Castaneda, Ponce de Leon Elementary and Desiree Rich, Ponce de Leon Elementary.
New hires for the Bonifay K-8 school include Melissa Hudson, who will serve as Guidance Counselor; Gordon Wells, electives teacher; Nikki Carnley, music teacher and Lewanna Steverson, custodian.
New hires at Ponce de Leon High School include Wanda Brown as part time curriculum coordinator and Melanie Freeman as part time testing coordinator.
In other business, the board is updating the school bus fleet with the purchase of ten new buses from Blue Bird for $218,292.25. The annual $9,000 payment will be made over the next five years out of the general fund, with the balance coming from “race track funds,” a percentage of monies collected from the state's racetracks by the Florida Department of Revenue and divided equally among Florida counties.
The board also gave approval to purchase playground equipment, exercise equipment, and electronics for the new Bonifay K8 school for $267,483.
Holmes County School Board will meet again in regular session at 9 a.m. on July 18.
