BONIFAY - Opening arguments were heard late Tuesday afternoon as trial proceedings began for the Pensacola man charged with the April 2015 slaying of a Ponce de Leon couple.

Jury selection began Monday morning, lasting until 7 p.m. and resuming Tuesday, continuing well into late afternoon before the trial could get fully underway Wednesday.

Gaskey is charged with two counts of murder in the first degree, burglary while armed, and armed robbery with a firearm related to April 18, 2015 murders of local ministry workers Glen and Jackie Brooks at their Grant Road residence in Ponce de Leon.

Gaskey was identified and located in Escambia County shortly after the Holmes County Sheriff's Office responded to the Brooks' home and discover both victims with gunshot wounds to the head.

Jackie Brooks was deceased and her husband, Sheley Glenn Brooks, was transported to a hospital in Bay County where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The trial was still ongoing Thursday, but check back for update as they become available.
