WASHINGTON COUNTY – Six people were arrested on drug related charges after a Washington County Sheriff’s deputy became suspicious of two vehicles stopped in the middle of the road.
The deputy was patrolling the area of River Lake Road when he saw the vehicles stopped and their occupants standing in the middle of the road.
Approaching the subjects, he noticed them move quickly behind one of the vehicles and attempting to hide something from his view. The deputy then noticed a bag of marijuana and a marijuana pipe on the dash of the vehicle.
At this time, the deputy began to request identifications. While attempting to verify identifications that were provided, one of the white male subjects was observed throwing something into the wood line. The subject was identified as Michael Brown, 33, of Youngstown.
Brown was placed in handcuffs until the object could be located. The deputy began to verify the identity of another male subject who claimed to be Michael Batson. After providing inconsistent information, the deputy became concerned he was being given false information.
Waiting for the subjects' identification to be confirmed, the white male was placed in handcuffs.
As the deputy located the object that had been thrown earlier - a pill bottle containing a crystal like substance, which later field tested positive for methamphetamine - the subject who identified himself as Batson was observed running down River Lake Road.
The deputy contacted dispatch to request back up units pursue the subject of the subject, who was later identified as Michael Vickers, 35, of Vernon.
Vickers was located a short time later hiding in a utility trailer at a residence on River Lake Road.
Further investigation of the scene found additional marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
In all, six were arrested in the incident and charged as follows:
Five people were arrested and charged with the following: Michael Brown, 33, of Youngstown, charged with possession of methamphetamine and tampering with evidence; Megan Ake, 25, of Southport charged with possession of a new legend drug, tampering with evidence, and possession of marijuana less than 20 grams; Michael Vickers, 35, of Vernon, charged with resisting without violence and outstanding out of county warrants for larceny; Lewis Mitchell, 42, of Southport, charged with possession of drug paraphernalia (pipe); Christopher Odom, 37, of Southport, charged with possession of new legend drug, possession of marijuana less than 20 grams, and tampering with evidence and Angela Crum, 43, of Chipley, charged with possession of marijuana less than 20 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia.
