PONCE DE LEON - A call from a concerned Holmes County resident reporting a suspicious person resulted in the arrest of an Apalachicola man and the recovery of a stolen vehicle.
The Holmes County Sheriff's Office reports a deputy responded to the call Monday, June 12, in the area of Highway 90 and Morrow Road in Ponce de Leon.
Upon arrival on scene, the deputy ran the vehicle's tag and learned it had been reported stolen out of Franklin County.
The deputy detained the driver, later identified as Douglas Matthews of Apalachicola.
A search of Matthews revealed a small amount of marijuana.
Franklin County confirmed the vehicle to be stolen out of their county, and Matthews was arrested and transported to the Holmes County Jail.
Holmes County Sheriff John Tate expressed his appreciation to the caller.
"This observant citizen saw something that didn't seem right and said something about it," Tate said. "That citizen's alertness led to the recovery of a stolen vehicle and a drug arrest."
