WASHINGTON COUNTY - A Vernon man was killed in early morning crash Sunday after driving in the wrong direction on State Road 79.

Florida Highway Patrol reports Ronald Dean Eubanks, 57, of Vernon, was traveling south bound within the north travel lanes of SR 79, approximately half a mile north of Environmental Road around 1:40 a.m. when he collided with Leon Tranard Howard, 23, of Carvyille, who was traveling north in the number one lane.

According to reports, Eubanks’ 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle collided with the front right of Howard’s 2002 Dodge Neon. After impact, the motorcycle continued to travel in a southeasterly direction, coming to final rest on the east shoulder of the roadway, facing east on its right side. Eubanks, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from the motorcycle and died from his injuries.

The impact caused the Dodge Neon to rotate in a clockwise motion before coming tofinal rest on the east shoulder of the roadway, facing north. Howard, who was wearing his seat belt, was not reported to have suffered any injuries.

Alcohol testing is still pending, and charges are pending disposition of the traffic homicide investigation.
