CHIPLEY - A Ponce de Leon man is facing felony charges following a report of shopping at the Chipley Walmart.

The Chipley Police Department responded to the call Sunday, and identified the suspect as Charles Ray Sonnier, 32, of Ponce de Leon.

Store staff reported Sonnier had been caught shoplifting a felony amount of merchandise.

According to reports, officers observed Sonnier’s behavior was "strange," noting he was extremely nervous and shaking, which prompted further investigation.

An officer conducted a search of Sonnier and found the suspect to be concealing a baggie containing a white powder substance, which was later identified as methamphetamine.

Sonnier was booked into the Washington County Jail on felony charges of grand theft (larceny) 300 dollars or more and drug possession (methamphetamine).
