HOLMES AND WASHINGTON COUNTIES — Summer is in full swing and so are summer reading programs at local libraries.
When school is out, the library is a great place to keep students engaged with reading. Washington County Public Libraries are hosting the Build a Better World summer program for pre-school aged children and up. Libraries are partnering with Feeding the Gulf Coast to offer the USDA summer feeding program. Activities and free meals are scheduled at each library:
Chipley – Summer programs will be held on Tuesdays on June 13, 20 and 27 and July 11 and 18 at 10:30 a.m. for young children and at 3:30 p.m. for teens. Meals are served throughout the week. Breakfast will be served from 9 to 11 a.m., with lunch from noon to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Friday breakfast is from 9 to 10:30 a.m., with lunch from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. Call 850-638-1314 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Wausau – Wausau programs will be held on Wednesdays on June 7, 14, 21 and 28 and July 12 and 19 at 3:30 p.m. Lunch will be served those days from 1 to 3 p.m.
Sunny Hills – Programs will be held on Wednesdays on June 7, 14, 21 and 28 and July 12 and 19 at 10:30 a.m. Breakfast will be served from 9 to 11 a.m. and a snack between 1 and 3 p.m.
Country Oaks – Programs are scheduled for Thursdays on June 8, 15, 22 and 29 and July 13 and 20 at 3:30 p.m. Snack will be offered from 10 to 10:30 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m.
Vernon – Library programs will be available July 24-27 from 3 to 5 p.m. and July 28 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch will be served Monday through Thursday that week from 1 to 3 p.m. and a snack offered from 4 to 5 p.m. Friday will include breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m. and lunch from 1 to 3 p.m.
Washington County will wind down summer programs with a show by Dr. Magical Balloons on Monday, July 17 at 11 a.m. at the Washington County Ag Center. Admission is free for kids to see a comical magic show with balloon shenanigans.
Holmes County Public Library in Bonifay will also host Build a Better World programs on Thursdays. Mad scientist Kylie Kinetic will visit to share experiments June 8 at 11:15 a.m. Fred Provost will present flying drones at 10 a.m. June 15. Magician Phil Meyer will perform June 22 at 10 a.m. Dwight Baldwin will put on a drum show at 10 a.m. June 29.
