BONIFAY — A former Holmes Correctional Institution sergeant admitted to having inappropriate sexual contact with an inmate and providing contraband in the form of candy.
The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) Office of Inspector General (OIG) arrested former Correctional Sergeant Laura L. Huckaby on May 2 following a criminal investigation when probable cause was found in the allegations.
In an affidavit, an inmate indicated he had seen Huckaby provide food items and personal letters to another inmate on several occasions. The inmate involved in a personal relationship with Huckaby provided testimony in the affidavit indicating he had engaged in sexual activity with Huckaby in the officers station of the dormitory Huckaby was assigned to between February and April this year.
Huckaby, 25, was charged with sexual misconduct and introduction of contraband and booked at Holmes County Jail. Holmes County Sheriff’s Office and the State Attorney’s Office assisted OIG in the investigation.
