The Department of Economic Opportunity recently released Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for March, reflecting a drop in the rate locally and statewide.

At 4.6 percent, Holmes County’s rate is down nearly a point from 5.5 in February. Washington County’s rate also experienced a decrease, dropping from 5.3 in February to 4.6 for March.

Statewide in February, there were 435,000 unemployed Floridians out of a labor force of 10 million. Florida’s unemployment rate of 4.3 is slightly less than the national rate, which came in at 4.5 percent in March. That number also reflects a slight drop from February's statewide average of 4.7.

The overall unemployment rate in the CareerSource Chipola region, comprised of Calhoun, Holmes, Jackson, Liberty and Washington Counties was 4.6 percent in March as opposed to the region’s rate a year ago of 5.2 percent.

Out of a labor force of 41,773, there were 1,935 unemployed residents in the region.

April's unemployment rates are expected to be released on May 19.
