PONCE DE LEON - More than four years after the Holmes County Sheriff's Office substation in Ponce de Leon closed due to structural issues, Sheriff John Tate announces the town's law enforcement sub station is back up and running in a new location.

The new substation is located on the old Hall's Hardware property at 1572 Highway 90, not far from the previous site in the old South Trust Bank building.

Tate says the station will be unmanned for now, but he hopes to one day staff the building with a deputy.

"For now, the station will serve as a place for deputies to write reports or conduct interviews without having to drive all the way back to the sheriff's office in Bonifay," he said. "In the future, I hope to have someone manning it two or three days a week - but that's if the budget allows it."

HCSO also has a substation in Westville, located adjacent to Westville Town Hall.
