ESTO – By June 1, Esto residents will have access to high speed internet, thanks to town council members giving final approval on a franchise agreement with Airspeed Networks in the April 4 meeting of Esto Town Council.

Airspeed Networks will hold the exclusive franchise and will give one percent of the six percent local service fees back to the town as payment for the franchise rights.

Esto Town Hall and the Esto Fire Department are expected to be fully up and running with the high speed service by May 11. Following the launch at Town Hall, Airspeed Networks anticipates hosting an open house event for residents interested in speaking to a representative and signing up for service.

The council also took another step toward the formation of the Esto Redevelopment Agency (ERA) with the first reading of the ordinance to establish the new entity. The ordinance is set for its second reading to take place when the council meets in a special session set scheduled for 6 p.m. on April 13. A board of commissioners is expected to be appointed for the ERA in that meeting.

In other business, Tommy Pitts of Mott McDonald advised the council of the final project summary and close out of the recently completed water line project.
