VERNON — Joey Brock is back on the city council following a tight race in the City of Vernon election April 10.
Brock was favored on just over half the 120 ballots cast with 63 votes to claim victory over opponent Becky Baxley with 57 votes. Brock, who previously served on the council, will fill a two-year term.
Tina Armstrong Sloan ran unopposed for a one-year term as mayor. The council chairman had been filling the role as the town had been without a mayor since Victor Starling resigned from the position in July last year.
Sloan and Brock will be sworn in at the next regular council meeting Monday, April 17 at 7 p.m.
