CHIPLEY - Two Bonifay men were taken into custody by the Washington County Sheriff's Office as a result of the report of a suspicious vehicle during the early morning hours of Monday, March 20.

Washington County Sheriff’s Cpl. Adam Brock responded to the call at Indian Trail Road, near the Pleasant Hill Road area. Upon arriving on scene, Cpl. Brock observed a vehicle located in the middle of the road with the driver’s door open. An - individual later identified as Matthew Shriefer, 36, of Banfill Road in Bonifay - had his hand in his pocket and began to walk toward Cpl. Brock.

Cpl. Brock advised the suspect to remove his hand from his pocket, and a subsequent search of Shriefer revealed that he was in possession of a .380 caliber Ruger automatic firearm. Shriefer was also found to be in physical possession of a pill bottle containing a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine and a full box of .380 ammunition.

Further investigation by deputies revealed the passenger in Shriefer's vehicle, identified as Phillip Weeks, 36 of Malcolm Taylor Road in Bonifay, was in possession of a bag of methamphetamine, along with a bag of marijuana.

It was also determined through the investigation that Schriefer is a convicted felon.

Schriefer was arrested and booked into the Washington County Jail on charges of carrying a concealed weapon, possession of methamphetamine, use of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of ammunition by a convicted felon.

Weeks was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana less than 20 grams.
