CHIPLEY - An Atlanta, Georgia woman was stopped for speeding through Washington County Sunday, but what began as a potential traffic citation soon resulted in felony drug charges.

Leah M. Parks, 26, was pulled over around 1:44 p.m. by Washington County deputies for traveling more than 75 miles per hour on State Road 77 in the area of Holmes Valley Road.

A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of what reports call "a large amount of marijuana" and more than 70 prescription narcotics in pill form, all packaged for sale.

Parks was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, 2 counts of possession of controlled substance, and possession of new legend drug .

Washington County Sheriff Kevin Crews says he is pleased to have intercepted the drugs before they could be distributed.

“Success in law enforcement isn’t how many tickets we write or how many people we put in jail, it is the absence of crime,” said Sheriff Crews. “We want everyone who passes through our county to know we will not tolerate the illegal possession, use or sale of drugs.”
