GREENHEAD - A correctional officer at Northwest Florida Reception Center has been arrested and charged with introduction of contraband.

The Florida Department of Corrections reports the arrest came after Officer Riley Pate reported for his shift around 5:46 p.m Thursday. A NFRC sergeant performed a search of Pate's lunch box and discovered four cell phones, seven sim cards, and five sets of ear buds wrapped in black material inside a cardboard snack container.

In a post-Miranda statement, Officer Pate admitted he was bringing the items to an inmate he knew as "Poppy." Pate also indicated he had brought cell phones and cigarettes to this inmate in the past and was paid $100 per phone and $100 per carton of cigarettes.

Pate was arrested by the FDOC Office of the Inspector General and was booked into the Washington County Jail.
