Chipola College President Jason Hurst resigned Tuesday after more than two years leading the Marianna state college, the Jackson County Floridian newspaper reported.

The resignation was accepted by the college's Board of Trustees, with Hurst placed on administrative leave until Dec. 1.

Sarah Clemmons will lead the school while Hurst is on administrative leave and then will become interim president, the newspaper reported.

Hurst submitted a letter that said the resignation was an "incredibly difficult decision for me but I believe it is one that is in the best interests of the college but most importantly, my wife, children, and family's best interests," according to the newspaper.
