VERNON — Vernon City Council ironed out more details for upcoming holiday events in Monday night’s regular meeting.

Dates were set for the Haunted Hallway planned for Saturday, Oct. 29 and Monday, Oct. 31. The event is a fundraiser for Project Graduation, an initiative offering Vernon High School seniors a safe alternative for celebration on graduation night.

The Haunted Hallway is aimed at drawing in local teens Halloween weekend with an experience recommended for children 8 and up. Times and admission cost are still being finalized. The event will be held at city hall.

Also in October, the recreation department’s cheerleading organizers were approved use of the community center on Friday, Oct. 28 for a kids fun night full of games and food to raise funds for cheer activities. Plans for a separate father-daughter dance and mother-son dance are also in the works for December.

A Veterans Day ceremony was also set for Friday, Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. in front of city hall.

In regular business, the council approved the hire of a recreation director and payment of $1,038 to cover football uniforms. Payment of bills associated with ongoing engineering projects was also approved.
