PANAMA CITY BEACH — “1-2-3, Warriors!” That’s the pre-game cheer for the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team, a group of veterans and active-duty soldiers who lost limbs in Iraq and Afghanistan. Thanks to modern prosthetic technology, they are able to compete at high levels by wearing devices that allow them to hit, run, catch and throw. This summer marks the team’s two-year anniversary. WWAST has a winning record of 80-38 and has played in 25 states and 55 cities.

Beginning this Thursday, WWAST will participate in the Military World Softball Tournament. This is the third year WWAST has participated.

The Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team is sponsored by the Washington Nationals and Louisville Slugger, along with other major American corporations.

The Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team faces off against Maryland Air National Guard at 6 p.m. on Thursday, August 15 at Frank Brown Park located at 16200 Panama City Beach Parkway; Panama City Beach, FL 32413.
