Wilson Birthday Banquet held Friday

CHIPLEY — The Rev. Price Wilson turned 90 on Oct. 25, and hundreds of family, friends and community leaders turned out for the birthday celebration held in Wilson's honor at at the Washington County Agricultural Center in Chipley.

Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church honored Wilson, who has served as pastor for 36 years with a banquet which featured the Rev. Dr. Bartholomew Banks, president of the Progressive Missionary and Educational Baptist State Convention of Florida; Inc, as keynote speaker.

Masters of Ceremonies for the evening included the Rev. Dr. H.G. McCollough, moderator of Second West Baptist Association, and Paul Goulding, president of the Goulding Agency.

Wilson has been active not just in the faith community as pastor and President of the Congress of Christian Education, Second West Florida Missionary Baptist Association Marianna, but also in the educational, political, and civic communities as well.

During the time of segregation, he was a principal and teacher at St. Mary Elementary School in Caryville for 19 years, as well as assistant principal at Chipley High School for 14 years, and Washington-Holmes Vocational Technical Center for three years at the time of integration.

The Rev. Price Wilson also served for 23 years on the Chipley City Council.

Wilson was born and raised in the Orange Hill community of Washington County. He is a U.S. Army veteran and holds bachelors and masters degrees from FAMU. He taught school and served as assistant principal at Chipley High School.
