CHIPLEY — Victor Finch, a Chipley man fighting cancer at a hospital in Texas, was the subject of a recent fundraiser.

The donations went to help with Finch’s medical expenses while receiving extensive chemotherapy treatments for stage 4 melanoma cancer at the M.D. Anderson Cancer
Center in Houston. Finch and his mother, Nancy, have been living near the hospital since Jan. 6.

His wife, Heather, is 9-months pregnant and staying at home in Chipley with their four-year-old daughter, Rae, who is in Pre-Kindergarten.

Finch said he hopes his schedule will permit him to return home in April to be at the birth of his second daughter.

“We have been overwhelmed at the generosity of others during our difficult time and want them to know how much we appreciate them,” said Heather Finch in an e-mail.

“We would like to thank everyone involved in the planning, coordinating, ticket-selling, grilling, and delivering of Boston butts for the Victor Over Cancer fundraiser held
at Ronnie B GOODS on Thursday, March 28.”

Victor Finch said he would like to strongly encourage everyone to be vigilant about checking themselves and their loved ones for suspicious-looking moles and to see a dermatologist immediately when any changes in shape, size, color, or texture is noticed in a mole.
