COTTONDALE — Returning home on Jan. 18, Specialist Brenda Cobb surprised her sons, Nick and Tristan Porter and stepsons, Devin Cobb and Logan Jenkins, at the Vernon vs. Cottondale Junior Varsity Basketball game in Cottondale.

Brenda had been gone from her home in Graceville for a total of 11 months, two months of training prior to a nine-month deployment in Afghanistan.

Brenda has been with the Alabama National Guard for almost six years.  She is a member of Support of Soldier Readiness Program and Medical Support of Pre Deployment Training.  She was also called to duty with the Gulf Oil Spill.

The surprise was arranged by her mother, Teresa Simpson, Jeff Owens, her cousin, Amy Walsingham, her husband, David Cobb, Marshall Porter, Vernon High School Principal, Brian Riviere, and Vernon’s JV Coach, Allan Ellis.  Also on hand to welcome Brenda home were School Board Members, Terry Ellis & Milton Brown.

Brenda’s family and friends are glad to have her home safe and would like to thank ALL soldiers and their families who sacrifice their family time for our Freedom.
