Area wrestlers have strong showings in district events

WEWAHITCHKA — Marianna won the District 1-1A wrestling title on Saturday and Bay County and other area teams had successful tournaments in advancing wrestlers to the next round.

The top four finishers in each weight class advanced to the Region 1-1A meet at Clay in Green Cove Springs next week. The event takes place Friday and Saturday, with top four wrestlers qualifying for the state tournament at The Lakeland Center Feb. 17-18.

Area individual champions were Arnold’s Colby Baker (132-pound weight class), Doug Miner (138), Taylor Ryan (145), Dillon Lamont (182) and Kole Krimm (heavyweight), Bozeman’s Jonah Savage (106), Brandon Reyes (113) and Kris Kenney (160), Marianna’s Jameson Maddox (126) and Dalton Hendrix (170) and Rutherford’s Marcus Roberts (195) and John Lee (220).

District 1-2A

PACE — Mosley’s Dillon Humphrey (132) and Forrest Lang (145) won championships in the district meet held at Pace High School. Michael Cannizzo, at 170, returned from a leg injury and placed second. All three wrestlers qualified for next week’s regional tournament at Tallahassee Lincoln.

B.J. Williams (152), Tyler Creel (160) and Aaron Penny (195) were one match away from advancing.
