We had better wake up
To the Editor:
We had better wake up!
Just as we, the American people, were lied to about the “Weapons of Mass Destruction” in Iraq, the deception has caused the rest of the civilized world to see this war as the sham it has become and to regard us as an “ignorant population” which is, by the way, what “we the people have become.”
The war has already cost our country the loss of a “trillion-plus dollars,” and continues at a cost of around twelve billion dollars per month.
The greater tragedy is the loss of our sons and daughters. They’re being blown up, burned and mutilated, as are thousands of innocent Iraqi citizens, for nothing more than an absolute theft of national wealth by “Big Oil” and “Halliburton” (no bid contracts), and “Blackwater,” a for-profit, private and illegal mercenary American army.
We now have active CIA operatives and underground personnel recruited from the Kurd and Sunni extremists of Iraq (more taxpayer dollars at work) and we are overflying Iranian air space. This is an act of war.
We are already beginning this insane process in yet the next country on the hit list (Iran).
By the way, we had better understand that the Bush Regime has already built a new line of strategic nuclear missiles, which are referred to as “Bunker Busters,” “RNEP or Robust Nuclear Earth Penetrators.” They carry a nuclear warhead that is 60 times more powerful than the Hiroshima bomb and the Bush Regime already has the language through the War Powers Act to use these weapons.
We already have a mess that we cannot simply walk away from in Iraq. Does the United States really need to strike Iran? Iran has reached out to the U.S. government and offered to hold unconditional discussions and to even put their legal pursuit of nuclear energy and Israel’s right to exist on the table in 2002, in an effort to normalize relations with America. This was rejected outright by the Bush administration. Iran, and its government, was one of the first to condemn the “911 attacks” on us, and assisted in our efforts to overthrow the Taliban in Afghanistan. Iran is a beautiful and culturally rich society that is more than 2500 years old as opposed to the United States’ age of 230 to 240 years. The people of Iran are mostly Pro-American and they do not pose a threat to our country or Israel in spite of the right-wing propaganda and the biased media, both of which are controlled by the “right wing Zionist government of Israel and big multi-national corporations.”
My friends, my fellow citizens, we may have a slight chance to stop this although it is unlikely at this time. If the United States continues down the path we are on, because of our stressed military we may have to resort to the use of these nuclear weapons on Iran. At that time, we can expect a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a passage in the Persian Gulf where 75 percent of the world’s oil supplies pass through. We can also expect the loss of at least one American city to an Islamic nuclear bomb and terrorist and suicide attacks in our country.
Will it be Seattle, Los Angeles, Atlanta, New York of Miami? Your guess is as good as mine. Which one could we give up? Where would it lead?
If we get on our phones, fax machines and emails to our state and national leaders en mass, we could maybe avert this tragic situation. However unlikely, we had better do what we can now!
Facts to ponder:
1. Only 20 percent of Americans have passports and have never been beyond the reach of “Fox News.”
2. Only 20 to 30 percent of our citizens bother to vote.
3. Majority of our own government does not know the difference between Sunni and Shiite people.
4. Most of our citizens are unaware of how our government works and most don’t care.
5. Without us, the citizens, to be informed and involved, we condemn our children and grandchildren to slavery in the country we will leave to them.
6. I am going to try to make a difference
Question:
Is anybody out there? Will anybody help? Does anyone care? Does heaven have a psych ward or burn unit?
My name is Glenn Nunley. I grew up in Jackson County. I am probably the most ignorant among us, but it does not take a superior IQ to see through this stuff and I am very afraid, not for myself but for our children. I would like to hear from anyone of you about what you feel about this, whether you agree or disagree, and to have meetings to discuss these things. It is my prayer that I can be proven wrong.
My phone number is 850-263-2632. I am ready to understand. I am tired of the death. I am tired of the greed. I am tired of the lies and I am just plain tired.
I hope Israel flourishes as a country and I have great respect for the Jewish people. Even the Jewish people know the policies of the Right-wing governments of both our countries are wrong. Many of their military, enlisted and officers, have refused to continue with the cruel apartheid slaughter of the Palestinians and the Lebanese people.
